    Este trabajo se centra en el problema de la biografía y la autobiografía como ejercicios de la memoria orientados tanto a construir la identidad de un personaje, como a explicar el sentido de una obra en función de las experiencias vividas por su autor. De la mano de Hans-Georg Gadamer se intentará reconstruir la relevancia que tuvo la literatura biográfica y autobiográfica en el período que va desde el siglo XVIII al XIX, es decir, el lapso que en términos filosóficos comprende el pasaje de la modernidad hacia la posmodernidad. Luego, a la luz de algunas de las propuestas hermenéuticas desarrolladas por el filósofo, se procurará hacer una lectura crítica de La invención de la soledad, de Paul Auster, teniendo en cuenta las características diferenciales de la época en la que escribe Auster y el período histórico al que se refiere Gadamer.

    This work focuses on the problem of biography and autobiography as memory exercises aimed both at building the identity of a character and at explaining the meaning of a work based on the experiences lived by its author. Within the framework of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s thought, an attempt will be made to reconstruct the relevance of biographical and autobiographical literature in the period from the 18th to the 19th century—that is, the period that in philosophical terms includes the passage from modernity to postmodernity. Then, following some of the hermeneutical proposals developed by the philosopher, we will try to make a critical reading of Paul Auster's work, The Invention of Solitude, taking into account the differential characteristics of the time in which Auster writes and the historical period to which Gadamer refers.
