Moss Hart, known primarily as George S. Kaufman's collaborator and as an author of Broadway comedies, made many other contributions to American theatre. However, aside from his work on MY FAIR LADY, his contributions as a director have largely been overlooked. One such neglected contribution is Hart's World War II play WINGED VICTORY, a patriotic pageant for which Hart served as both playwright and director. The uniqueness of WINGED VICTORY lies in the history of the production, the divided critical responses, and the play's reflection of the mind of World War II America.
