En este artículo se explora el significado social de dos pinturas del arte realista del siglo XIX, una, del mexicano José María Velasco y otra, del argentino Ángel Della Valle. Ambas cuentan con el ingrediente central del imaginario social que querían asentar los grupos dominantes: el ferrocarril como símbolo de lo moderno y del progreso.

This article explores the social significance of two paintings of 19th century realistic art, one by the Mexican José María Velasco and the other by the Argentinian Ángel Della Valle. Both have the central ingredient of the social imaginary that the dominant groups wanted to establish: the railroad as a symbol of modernity and progress.
