    El estado de la cuestión, también conocido como estado del arte, podría considerarse como la puerta de entrada a un trabajo de investigación. Y, aunque es verdad que la elección de un tema de investigación debería tenerse más propiamente como tal, la selección y evaluación de fuentes, así como de los resultados acerca del tema planteado, que señalan el momento inicial de la investigación en cuanto a dicho tema, tienen un valor fundamental para el diseño ulterior del investigador y, por tanto, para la trayectoria y el resultado final del trabajo.

    Tal indagación no solo determina los primeros pasos en la construcción del marco teórico-conceptual, el cual delimitará las propuestas de análisis elegidas para la investigación, sino que supondrá marcar los alcances y las expectativas del investigador; pero, también, los límites de la intervención del asesor de tesis en el trabajo del tesista.

    The state of the question, also known as the state of the art, could be considered as the gateway to a research paper. And, although it is true that the choice of a research topic should be taken more properly as such, the selection and evaluation of sources, as well as the results on the topic raised, which indicate the initial moment of the investigation regarding said topic, have a fundamental value for the subsequent design of the researcher and, therefore, for the trajectory and the final result of the work.

    Such inquiry not only determines the first steps in the construction of the theoretical-conceptual framework, which will delimit the analysis proposals chosen for the investigation, but it will mean marking the scope and expectations of the researcher; but, also, the limits of the thesis advisor's intervention in the thesis student's work.
