Resumen de Representantes del elemento intelectual. Dos espacios de la ciencia: el Concurso Científico Queretano y la Sociedad Politécnica Queretana, 1900-1902

  La ciudad de Querétaro al inicio del siglo XX fue el escenario de diversas actividades científicas promovidas por la sociedad civil y con respaldo del gobierno estatal. Entre estas se encuentran la celebración del Concurso Científico Queretano (1900-1901) y las discusiones científicas acaecidas en el seno de la Sociedad Politécnica Queretana (1901-1902), espacios que socializaron los resultados de la investigación científica llevada a cabo en la entidad. El objetivo del artículo es reconocer la importancia del Concurso y la Sociedad en el desarrollo de la práctica científica queretana en el marco de las actividades de la élite intelectual para combatir las enfermedades, aprovechar los recursos naturales, reconocer el territorio y mejorar las comunicaciones y transportes. Ambos espacios científicos al inicio del siglo XX se sumaron a la red académica del país para dar solución a las problemáticas sociales por medio de la ciencia. La fuente histórica se compone de trece escritos publicados en el Periódico Oficial del Estado de Querétaro. La Sombra de Arteaga, así como diez escritos de la prensa de amplio público de la Ciudad de México. La prensa expuso el interés de la sociedad civil y el gobierno por evidenciar las actividades científicas queretanas ante la opinión pública regional y la nacional. El Concurso y la Sociedad fueron espacios científicos regionales que buscaban atraer nuevos practicantes, intercambiar información especializada, iniciar las vocaciones científicas desde la juventud, educar a los profesores de primeras letras y promover la producción de ciencia local.

  The city of Queretaro at the beginning of the 20th century was the scene of various scientific activities promoted by civil society and with the support of the government. Among these are the celebration of the Queretano Scientific Contest (1900-1901) and the scientific discussions that took place within the Queretano Polytechnic Society (1901-1902), spaces that socialized the results of the scientific research carried out in the entity. The objective of the article is to recognize the importance of the Contest and Society in the development of scientific practice in Queretaro within the framework of the activities of the intellectual elite to combat diseases, take advantage of natural resources, recognize the territory, and improve communications and transportation. Both scientific spaces at the beginning of the 20th century joined the country's academic network to solve social problems through science. The historical source is made up of thirteen writings published in the Official Newspaper of the State of Querétaro. La Sombra de Arteaga, as well as ten writings from the press of Mexico City. The press exposed the interest of civil society and the government in highlighting Queretaro's scientific activities before regional and national public opinion. The Contest and the Society were regional scientific spaces that sought to attract new practitioners, exchange specialized information, start scientific vocations, educate elementary teachers, and promote the production of local science.
