The gradual introduction of an integrated management system for EU’s external borders seemed to fulfill the wishes of those who had always supported a greater degree of integration of the European project. Unfortunately, almost fifteen years after entering into force the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, certain issues could still prevent to affirm the achievement of a consolidated integrated management system for European borders.
Considered as limits and weaknesses of the current European border managementsystem, the following article will address aspects related to its conceptual delimitation, with the advisability of reaching higher levels of coordination between national and European agencies in the migratory field, as well as the need to set up mechanisms that demand due responsibility from those European agencies that may have committed some type of violations of fundamental rights.
