The purpose of our study is to highlight the principle of equal treatment recognised by Euro-Mediterranean agreements as a key element in guaranteeing the legal status of legal residents, which has been overshadowed by the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean.
Any migration policy must adequately address the control of the flow as well as the integration of the migrant population in the new space of coexistence.
These days, the institutional response from the European Union and the Spanish state on migration issues affects not only the control of the irregular flow, but also the basic rights of the contingent of residents from Turkey, the Maghreb and other northern Mediterranean countries.
From this perspective, this article will examine Euro-Mediterranean relations through the international agreements signed by the European Union with Mediterranean countries, paying special attention to the commitments of each of the parties in terms of border control, flow management and free mobility
