  • This paper analyses the IOM's “Policy on the full spectrum of return, readmission and reintegration” in order to understand: the direction taken by the organisation in the management of return migration, what objectives and principles are set out therein and whether what is set out in the document can be reflected in the activities “on the ground” of IOM and its partners. The first part of the document is dedicated to the analysis of the causes and effects of return, readmission and reintegration policies. The second part explores the structure of the policy document, analysing its aims, objectives and guiding principles. The third part focuses on the support activities offered by IOM in the framework of the “Joint EU- IOM Initiative for the Protection and Reintegration of Migrants”, funded by the European Trust Fund for Africa. This section highlights the difficulties in implementing what is promoted in both soft-law and hard-law acts in relation to the respect of migrants' rights and human rights more generally. The last part aims to provide some considerations on the quality of the policy document and the relevance it can have in determining ‘inspired approaches’ in the context of return, readmission and reintegration policies.
