    Se examina, mediante una lectura de la novela Amuleto (1999), la centralidad adquirida por los espacios en la narrativa de Roberto Bolaño en tanto cronotopos del trauma y la barbarie ligada a algunos acontecimientos históricos del pasado latinoamericano, como la ocupación militar de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) y la masacre de Tlatelolco. Se argumenta que dicha relevancia de los lugares estriba en una función alegórica que, además de la utilidad circunstancial, penetra en la estructura de la obra y tributa a una configuración literaria de la memoria histórica regional. A partir de las teorizaciones de Mijaíl Bajtín y Gaston Bachelard sobre las nociones de ‘cronotopo’ y ‘espacio literario’, respectivamente, el análisis se adentra en el concurso de dos significados que la escritura bolañiana asigna a los espacios: la representación de lo cerrado como favorable a la liberación reflexiva, y de lo abierto y natural como símbolo de la violencia estatal y la barbarie.

    Through a reading of the novel Amuleto (1999), the centrality acquired by spaces in Roberto Bolaño’s narrative as chronotopes of trauma and barbarism linked to some historical events of the Latin American past, such as the military occupation of the University National Autonomous Government of Mexico (UNAM) and the Tlatelolco massacre. It is argued that the relevance of the places is based on an allegorical function that, in addition to the circumstantial utility, penetrates the structure of the work and contributes to a literary configuration of the regional historical memory. Based on the theorizations of Mijaíl Bajtín and Gaston Bachelard on the notions of ‘chronotope’ and ‘literary space’, respectively, the analysis delves into the contest of two meanings that Bolañian writing assigns to spaces: the representation of what is closed as favorable to reflexive liberation, and of the open and natural as a symbol of state violence and barbarism.
