    En este artículo se reconstruye el lugar que sir-vió de nexo económico y social entre Europa y América durante los siglos XVI y XVII. El co-nocimiento de la distribución funcional de este importante edificio de Sevilla, de sus estancias principales, de sus fachadas y accesos, ha revela-do el carácter orgánico de su evolución construc-tiva, adaptándose a las necesidades que requería la institución en cada momento, así como la na-turaleza permeable de su relación con el entorno urbano, capaz de enlazar el edificio con el siste-ma de espacios públicos de la ciudad.

    his article reconstructs the place that served as an economic and social nexus between Eu-rope and America during the 16th and 17th centuries. Knowledge of the functional distri-bution of this important building in Seville, its main rooms, façades and accesses, has revealed the organic nature of its constructive evolu-tion, adapting to the needs of the institution at any given time, as well as the permeable na-ture of its relationship with the urban environ-ment, capable of linking the building with the system of public spaces in the city.
