    • Salvatore Rotta, Geminiano Montanari e altri studi di storia della scienza nella prima età moderna , edited by Davide Arecco, Paolo Luca Bernardini, and Elisa Bianco. Milan-Udine: Mimesis, 2021. 320 pp. ISBN: 9788857563459.

Twenty years after the demise of Salvatore Rotta (1926–2001), three notable historians influenced by his teachings—namely Davide Arecco, Paolo Luca Bernardini and Elisa Bianco—have collected in a single volume a selection of Rotta’s papers published between 1967 and 1990. The papers are heterogeneous in their format—two journal articles, one chapter from a collected volume, three entries in the Treccani Encyclopedia—but also in their topics. The fil rouge is the interest in key figures of Italian science in the second half of the seventeenth century, namely the period that represents “the historical and cultural trait d’union between the Baroque Age and the Enlightenment” (p. 10).1 The only exception is the last text (on Giuseppe Bianchini) where the discussion of scientific issues is marginal, if not absent.
