  José Martí durante la preparación de la Guerra Necesaria se refirió en numerosas ocasiones al Partido Liberal Autonomista y la posición que había asumido con respecto al futuro de Cuba desde que se fundó en 1878. Este Partido estaba integrado, fundamentalmente, por hacendados cubanos que habían perdido su fortuna durante la Guerra de los Diez Años y presentaba un proyecto dependiente de España que pedía la Autonomía. En el presente ensayo se exponen las concepciones fundamentales de este pensador cubano sobre dicha tendencia ideológica. Los artículos donde se refirió al tema mostraron un profundo conocimiento sobre los motivos de su surgimiento, su integración, su relación con el independentismo, entre otros. A través de ellos analizó a esta opción política y la colocó en su justo lugar como parte de la lucha ideológica que enfrentaba. En la concepción martiana el autonomismo no fue más que el partido de la equivocación permanente. En la actualidad, sus ideas han sido retomadas por la historiografía contemporánea en las investigaciones sobre la temática, muestra evidente de la importancia que reviste el estudio del pensamiento martiano para una mayor comprensión del autonomismo como proyecto político en el siglo XIX cubano.

  José Martí during the preparation of the Necessary War referred on numerous occasions to the Autonomist Liberal Party and its position regarding the future of Cuba since it was founded in 1878.

  Cuban landowners who had lost their fortune during the Ten Years’ War and presented a project dependent on Spain that called for autonomy integrated this Party, fundamentally. In the present essay, the fundamental conceptions of this Cuban thinker on this ideological tendency are exposed.

  The articles where he referred to the subject showed a deep knowledge about the reasons for its emergence, its integration, its relationship with the independence movement, among others.

  Through them, he analyzed this political option and placed it in its proper place as part of the ideological struggle he faced. In the Marti´s conception, autonomy was no more than the party of permanent mistake. Currently, his ideas have been taken up by contemporary historiography in research on the subject, an evident proof of the importance of the study of Marti's thought for a greater understanding of autonomy as a political project in the 19th century in Cuba.
