    En el presente artículo trataremos de definir el icono en contraste con la obra de arte en el sentido más moderno del término. A lo largo del texto daremos cuenta de la densidad teológica y de la originalidad que el icono posee, de su peculiar penetración en el sentido de lo real, así como de la relación ontológica que mantiene con el modelo que epifánicamente representa. Al mismo tiempo pretendemos aglutinar las constantes metodológicas y formales que el iconógrafo muestra en su hacer, muchas de las cuales, aunque parcialmente conocidas y analizadas, se hallan dispersas en la bibliografía más especializada.

    In this article we will try to define the icon in contrast to the work of art in the most modern sense of the term. Throughout the text we will give an account of the theological density and originality that the icon possesses, of its peculiar penetration into the sense of the real, as well as of the ontological relationship that it maintains with the model that it epiphanically represents. At the same time, we intend to bring together the methodological and formal constants that the iconographer shows in his work, many of which, although partially known and analysed, are scattered in the more specialised bibliography
