  • Resumen
    • Throughout his lifetime, Victor Masson (1849-1917) dedicated himself primarily to two activities. On the one hand, he was a wood and coal merchant within a family business, a profession that provided him with stable financial resources and a high social status. On the other hand, during his leisure time, he practiced painting and drawing for his own pleasure. While this second activity apperars to be more visible today, it was practiced discreetly during Masson's lifetime, and he does not seem to have gained any notoriety from it. As an amateur artist, he was able to remain at a distance from the traditional art world circuits that typically dependen on prfessionals. However, far from employing this autonomy for the sake of novelty or originality, his artistic practice was in line with the common trends of art as it existed during his time.
