O impacto da institucionalização na saúde e bem-estar psicológico das pessoas idosas

    In this work, we draw some reflections based on reports of experiences experienced in the field of the Supervised Basic Internship of the Faculty of Psychology course, facing the reality of hospitalization in a long-term institution for the elderly -ILPI. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of institutionalization on the psychological well-being of institutionalized elderly people and the influence of this reality on the aging process. This is a qualitative study that used bibliographical research and participant observation as a method, through group dynamics, observation and occasional visits to a long-stay institution for the elderly (ILPI). As a result, it was possible to observe some effects resulting from the institutionalization of some elderly people, such as the need to obey completely new rules, the restriction of freedom, cognitive impairments such as forgetfulness, inattention and time-space disorientation and living with new and different people and their effects on aging. The study became the internship as a space and time for learning about the routine in an institution specialized in elderly care and the emotional well-being of these individuals, allowing the construction of theoretical and practical knowledge for all those involved in the process.

    O artigo que ora se apresenta trata-se de um relato de experiência no campo do Estágio Básico Supervisionado do curso de graduação em Psicologia, frente à realidade de internação em uma instituição de longa permanência para idosos (ILPI). A partir das vivências em dinâmicas de grupos, observações e visitas pontuais a uma ILPI refletimos acerca dos impactos da institucionalização no bem-estar psicológico de idosas e a influência dessa realidade no processo de envelhecimento. Foi possível observar algumas dificuldades no que tange a necessidade de obediência às regras totalmente novas, a restrição da liberdade, prejuízos cognitivos como esquecimentos, desatenção e desorientação tempo-espaço e a convivência com novas e diferentes pessoas e seus efeitos no envelhecimento.
