    La red de canales del Reino Unido es uno de los sistemas de transporte más antiguos e importantes del país, con una larga y compleja historia. La red desempeñó un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de la Revolución Industrial. En las últimas décadas, esta infraestructura está experimentado un renovado interés y juega un papel importante no solo como atractivo turístico y uso recreativo sino también por su potencial en la lucha contra el cambio climático. Este artículo describe brevemente la evolución de la red histórica de canales del Reino Unido y presenta el rol de organizaciones como Canal & River Trust o Historie England en la gestión y protección de este importante patrimonio hidráulico

    The canal network of the United Kingdom is one of the oldest and most important transport systems of the country and has a long and complex history. The country's inland waterways played a crucial role on the fuelling of the Industrial Revolution. In recent decades, there is a growing interest on this network, not only as a recreational and touristic asset, but also because of its great potential on the fight against climate change. This article presents a brief outline of the development of the canal network in the United Kingdom. lt also introduces the role that organisations such as the Canal & River Trust or Historie England can play in the management and protection of this important heritage
