Resumen de Stratigraphy and microfauna in the Miocene of the Ukrainian Subcarpatians

Heinrich Hiltermann

  • The present publication is based on numerous samples, which were obtained in particular by means of drilling wells through the Miocene strata of the Ukrainian Subcarpatian Foreland. This sequence of strata of a thickness of several thousand meters, which is situated over a range from 35 to 70 km between the Rivers San and Czeremocz in the NE in front of the East Carpatians, is subdivided in four bionomical units under the micropaleontological aspect. The Lower Salt Formation contains in its pelitic sediments, beside Tertiary foraminifera, especially frequently and regularly allochthonous foraminifera. The Stebnik Beds with the Upper Salt Formation contain brackish and evaporitic sediments. This ecological proof can be realized in many cases by means of Charophytes and Ostracodes. The Daszawa Beds are strictly marine and contain foraminifers, extremely rich in species and individuals. From among these 40 species are nominated in a range table or in a list. The chronologically younger Chraplice Beds are dealt with briefly.
