  • Resumen
    • Ibiza and Formentera are two islands in the western Mediterranean with a high dependence on tourism. During the years 2020 and 2021 there was the biggest tourist stoppage since the post-war period, due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The aim of this work is to make a first approach to before, during and after this break in tourism in Ibiza and Formentera. For this purpose, secondary data from public bodies, mainly Ibestat and INE, were reviewed. The main results are: the restrictions adopted caused a serious break in the arrival of tourists between March 2020 and June 2021, with a slight relief in July and August 2020; in the summer of 2021, 80% of the previous data were reached and the subsequent improvement led to a 2022 with figures like those of the pre-pandemic. Regarding the profile by nationality, the tourist source market that best resisted was Spanish, being the first nationality in 2020, 2021 and 2022, displacing the United Kingdom. Within international tourism, France and the Netherlands are the source markets with the best recovery. The forecasts for 2023 raise doubts due to high inflation and the risk of recession in the main source markets.
