Escepticismo antiguo/ escepticismo moderno: a propósito de una distinción problemática

    Habitualmente tiende a realizarse una distinción clara entre las corrientes escépticas antiguas y la “recuperación” moderna del escepticismo. Además, en los estudios actuales suele dejarse de lado la skepsis griega, filosóficamente devaluada desde la perspectiva del pensamiento moderno que se enfrenta al reto escéptico entendido en términos netamente epistemológicos, frente a la postura ética antigua. Nuestra intención es, pues, doble. Por un lado, pretendemos cuestionar algunas de las supuestas distinciones que separarían tajantemente al escepticismo antiguo del moderno. Y por otro lado, deseamos mostrar cómo esta distinción ha llevado a minusvalorar la potencia filosófica del escepticismo antiguo y su relevancia como reto fundamental para cualquier posición filosófica moderna, en tanto en cuanto las objeciones que se le imputan al escepticismo en general quedarían invalidadas ante las estrategias del escepticismo clásico.

    Usually scholars draw a clear distinction between the old skeptical currents and the “modern recovery” of skepticism. In addition, contemporary studies tend to leave aside the Greek skepsis, philosophically devaluated from the point of view of the modern thought that understood the skeptical challenge in epistemological terms, in front of the old ethical sense of this current. In this sense, we have two main targets. On the one hand, we try to challenge some of the supposed distinctions that would separate sharply old and modern skepticism. And on the other hand, we wished to show how this distinction underestimates the philosophical power of the old skepticism and its relevance as a fundamental challenge for any modern philosophical position, while the objections that are imputed generally to skepticism would be invalidated before the strategies of the classic skepsis
