    Esta monografía busca los orígenes de las estructuras económicas de la región de Azuero. Es el interés central de este artículo presentar las formas de propiedad territorial que sirvieron de fundamento a la organiza-ción de la vida en la región azuerense, a través de un recorrido de casi 500 años. Desde el asentamiento español en el siglo XVI, en la región de Cubitá, a partir de 1569, hasta el siglo XVIII cuando se estructura la propiedad co-munal de las tierras indultadas por el Rey de España, para llegar al siglo XX, cuando ya emancipados de Colombia, se da el proceso de privatización de las tierras a través de la Ley 20 de 1913. Son las estructuras agrarias comunales de las tierras indultadas en donde se crean las bases de la original cultura azuerense, transformadas con su sello capitalista de los negocios en el siglo XX al ser privatizadas.

    This monograph seeks the origins of the economic structures of the region of Azuero. The main in-terest of this paper is to present the forms of land ownership that served as the basis for the organization of life in the region of Azuero, through a journey of nearly 500 years. From the Spanish settlement in the XVI century in the region of Cubita, from 1569 until the XVIII century when the community land ownership pardoned by the King of Spain was structured to reach the twentieth century, being emancipated from Colombia, the process of privatization of land is given through Law 20 of 1913. These are the communal agrarian structures pardoned land where the foundations of the original Azuero culture was created, and transformed with its capitalist business trait in the XX century to be then privatized.
