We know the opinion Panofsky had about the work of Walter Benjamin through the correspondence that the latter had with Hugo Hofmannsthal. What we try is to compare the philosopher’s thoughts and the iconologist’s thoughts, with the backdrop of a subject Panofsky studied in depth and Benjamin adapted to its own working method: melancholy.
