    En 1823 Puerto Real aún no se había recuperado de las terribles consecuencias de la ocupación napoleónica ni del paso y enfrentamiento, en 1820, entre las tropas de Rafael del Riego y Fernando VII tras el pronunciamiento de las Cabezas de San Juan. Ahora, tres años más tarde deberá abastecer y proveer a dos nuevos contingentes de tropas que, en este agitado inicio del siglo XIX, recuperarán la Bahía de Cádiz como teatro de operaciones. De una parte, el ejército liberal y las Milicias voluntarias que acompañan protegiendo/custodiando a Fernando VII y las Cortes, de otra, el ejército francés de los Cien Mil Hijos de San Luis que, al mando del duque de Angulema, pretende liberar/restaurar al monarca español. El coste del repliegue del primero durante el mes de junio y el gasto que supone la ocupación francesa durante los meses de julio, agosto y septiembre son el tema de nuestro trabajo. Quiénes abastecen a las tropas, cuánto dinero supone, de qué productos se trata y cuándo —si ocurre— serán recuperadas estas cantidades por la población de Puerto Real.

    In 1823 Puerto Real had not yet recovered from the terrible consequences of the Napoleonic occupation nor from the passage and confrontation, in 1820, between the troops of Rafael del Riego and Fernando VII after the pronouncement of at Cabezas de San Juan. Now, three years later, it will have to stock and supply for two new contingents of troops that, in this convulsive beginning of the 19th century, will recover the Bay of Cádiz as a theater of operations. On the one hand, the liberal army and the voluntary militias that accompany protecting/guarding Fernando VII and the Cortes, on the other, the French army of the Cien Mil Hijos de San Luis which, under the command of the Duke of Angoulême, aimed to liberate/restore to the Spanish monarch. The cost of the withdrawal of the former during the month of June and the cost of the French occupation during the months of July, August and September are the subject of our work. Who supplies the troops, how much money was involved, what products were and when —if at all— these amounts would be recovered by the population of Puerto Real.
