O sábio Apolônio de Tiana na cidade de Alexandria: a visão do sofista grego Filóstrato sobre a capital da província romana do Egito (século III d.C.)

    Este artigo objetiva interpretar passagens do livro V da obra de natureza biográfica Vida de Apolônio de Tiana, escrita pelo sofista grego Flávio Filóstrato em meados do século III d.C. Visamos, com isso, a mostrar como um sofista grego, inserido nas estruturas de poder do Império Romano na época da dinastia dos Severos, percebia a cidade de Alexandria nas relações estabelecidas por seu personagem, o sábio viajante Apolônio, em passagem por esse espaço. Além disso, pretendemos analisar a possibilidade da viagem para Alexandria ter sido real ou uma criação do sofista, refletindo sobre a ótica e os possíveis anseios de Filóstrato.

    This paper aims to interpret specific passages of the book V of the biographical work The Life of Apollonius of Tyana, written by the Greek sophist Flavius Philostratus in the mid-third century A.D. We intend to demonstrate how a Greek sophist, inserted in the structures of power in the Roman Empire at the time of the Severan dynasty, perceived the city of Alexandria through the analyses of the relations established by his personage, the sage traveler Apollonius, who used to stay at this space. Furthermore, we intend to discuss if the trip to Alexandria was real or a creation by the writer, reflecting about the perspective and aspirations of Philostratus.
