COVID-19 en la Amazonía colombiana y su afectación a las poblaciones indígenas: fortalecer y articular los sistemas de salud locales es un imperativo

    En un contexto marcado por las inequidades, el impacto negativo de la COVID-19 en la Amazonía colombiana elevó el riesgo de extinción física y cultural de algunos pueblos indígenas. El sistema de salud propio indígena ha sido fundamental para su bienestar y para enfrentar la pandemia. Estos pueblos demandan que su sistema sea reconocido, se complemente con el sistema de salud nacional, y se construyan procesos interculturales que respondan a sus necesidades. La interculturalidad requiere inversión en gestión de conocimiento, talento humano, plataformas institucionales que acojan las adecuaciones y sostenibilidad; aunque el enfoque diferencial hace parte de las políticas nacionales desde hace décadas, su implementación es limitada. Además de fortalecer y articular los sistemas de salud, es indispensable generar respuestas intersectoriales para incidir en los factores que afectan la salud para mejorar el bienestar y los resultados en salud de estas poblaciones.

    In a context marked by inequities, the negative impact of COVID-19 in the Colombian Amazon raised the risk of physical and cultural extinction of some indigenous peoples. The indigenous health system has been essential for their well-being and for facing the pandemic; however, the lack of recognition and support from the governmental institutions has been a barrier to implement an intercultural health system that can protect and ensure their survival. Although the differential approach has been part of national policies for decades, its implementation is limited. These peoples demand their system to be recognized, complemented by the national health system, and intercultural processes that respond to their needs. Interculturality requires investment in knowledge management, human talent, institutional platforms that accommodate adaptations and sustainability. In addition, it is essential to generate intersectoral responses to influence the factors that affect health in order to improve the well-being and health outcomes of these populations.
