  • Resumen
    • The aim of this paper is to analyze how Josep Lluís Sert created an abstraction of the main characteristics from the Mediterranean architecture and adapted and translated to another environment and culture like North America. He combined design and practicality with tradition and modernity, thereby generating a new style which distanced itself from the rigid geometry of functionalism and took a very important step in merging the technology of the concrete with the timeless architectural elements of the vernacular Mediterranean architecture. Sert played with different textures, colors, finishes and sculptural volumes, creating a maximum expression in his constructive language.
