Este artículo trata de presentar la imagen de las celebraciones del Carnaval en el Perú, especialmente en el período comprendido desde finales del virreinato hasta las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Esa etapa, que abarca alrededor de ciento cincuenta años, dio paso a cambios fundamentales en el sistema de gobierno y la economía, así como en las estructuras sociales, la vida cotidiana y las mentalidades. Hemos elaborado nuestro trabajo teniendo en cuenta fundamentalmente informaciones procedentes de testimonios variados de familiares y amigos, quienes participaron en esas celebraciones, tratando en lo posible de ampliarlas y completar

This article represents the image of Carnival celebrations in Peru, especially the time between the end of the viceroyalty and the first decades of the 20th century. That period spanning around 150 years brought up fundamental changes in the system of government and the economy, as well as in social structures, daily life and mentalities. We have elaborated our work considering mainly information from various testimonies, both family and friends, who participated in these celebrations, trying as much as possible to expand and complete them.
