This article has as its goal to make a reflection about how the problem of race was thought by Manoel Bomfim in the context of the first decade of the 20th century in Brazil. The main source of this article is the work América Latina: males de origem, which discusses about what were the objectives, the hypothesis and the proposed solutions proposed by the intellectual to the problems of the Brazilian society of the beginning of the last century. A detailed analysis is presented on Bomfim’s position about the theory of “superiority” and “inferiority among races, highlighting the aspects of originality as well as the limitations of his thoughts.
Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma reflexão sobre como o problema da raça foi pensado por Manoel Bomfim no contexto da primeira década do século XX no Brasil. A fonte principal deste estudo é a obra América Latina: males de origem, em que são discutidos quais eram os objetivos, as hipóteses e as soluções propostas pelo intelectual para os problemas da sociedade brasileira do começo do século passado. Presentar-se-á de maneira mais pormenorizada uma análise sobre o posicionamento de Bomfim em relação a teoria da “superioridade” e da “inferioridade” entre as raças, destacando os aspectos de originalidade e também as limitações de seu pensamento.
