Resumen de A mulher militar brasileira no século XXI: antigos paradigmas, novos desafios

  The entry of women in military institutions, which took place mainly from the 1970’s in Western societies, eventually broke the representations of war as an exclusively male domain. Such integration did not occur by chance, but was the result of demands of the feminist movement for political and social rights egalitarian, since the social gender relations have also undergone profound changes in the twentieth century. The official discourse of Brazilian military institutions, despite accepts the female incorporation, warns against a number of problems that would arise from such participation, especially if women fought in conflict zones, because their specific responsibilities with families and their physical limitations, which would prevent them from occupying all functions in military career, as occurs with men. The implicit view is that the natural destiny of the woman is the family care, and that engagement in the military would be contrary to this dedication, threatening the patriarchal family model still present in Brazilian society. Therefore, the inclusion of women in military institutions and demands for equal treatment with respect to the division of labor is a challenge to old paradigms, still present and valued in our society.

  A entrada de mulheres nas instituições militares, ocorrida principalmente a partir da década de 1970 nas sociedades ocidentais, acabou por romper com as representações da guerra como um terreno exclusivamente masculino. Tal inserção não se deu por acaso, mas foi fruto de demandas do movimento feminista por direitos políticos e sociais igualitários, uma vez que as relações sociais de gênero também passaram por profundas transformações no século XX. O discurso oficial das instituições militares brasileiras, apesar de aceitar a incorporação feminina, adverte contra vários problemas que decorreriam dessa participação, sobretudo no combate em zonas de conflito, pois suas responsabilidades específicas junto às famílias e suas limitações físicas as impediriam de ocupar todas as funções da carreira militar, tal como ocorre com os homens. A visão implícita é que o destino natural da mulher é o cuidado da família, e que o engajamento na vida militar seria contrário a essa dedicação, ameaçando o modelo de família patriarcal ainda presente na sociedade brasileira. Portanto, a inserção de mulheres nas instituições militares e as demandas por um tratamento igualitário com relação à divisão do trabalho constituem um desafio a velhos paradigmas, ainda presentes e valorizados em nossa sociedade.
