Resumen de Religiosidade, perdição da alma e salvação na sociedade portuguesa medieval (séc. XIV-XVI)

The aim of this paper is to present some elements of Portuguese religiosity in late middle Ages and Early Modern period and actions indicated by the Church to the Christians, such as almsgiving, fasting and attendance at church services. There is the concern for the salvation of the soul, the appreciation of the Virgin Mary and the Franciscan order. In this period, we can also notice an increasing in processions, in a context of fear of death because of the black plague. At the same time, pagan practices were still held in the Portuguese kingdom and the belief in the possibility of the individual to be taken by the devil. Un example is a request from a person, who asks Afonso V, monarch, the retirement, by virtue of being possessed by the devil, and his plead is accepted. Some examples are shown about the role of the belief in miracles in the Chronicle of John I and also, the religiosity of some people of the nobility, such as Nuno Álvares Pereira, and the royal Avis family, as John I, King Edward, of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster.

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar alguns elementos da religiosidade portuguesa em fins da Idade Média e início da Moderna e ações indicadas pela Igreja na conduta dos cristãos, como a esmola, os jejuns, a frequência às missas. Destaca-se a preocupação com a salvação da alma, o apreço pela Virgem Maria e pelos franciscanos. Neste período é possível notar também um aumento das procissões, num contexto de medo da morte, devido à peste negra. Ao mesmo tempo, as práticas pagãs ainda eram realizadas no reino luso e se acreditava na possibilidade do indivíduo ser tomado pelo demônio. Um exemplo é uma solicitação de um endemoniado que pede ao monarca Afonso V a aposentadoria, em virtude de estar possuído pelo demônio, no que é atendido. São mostrados alguns exemplos da crença do papel do milagre na Crónica de D. João I e da religiosidade de algumas pessoas da nobreza, como D. Nuno, e da família real avisina, como D. João I, D. Duarte e D. Filipa.
