This article has the objective of analyze the ways in which workers of streets, such as chargers, sellers and beggars, articulated his days in Fortaleza, in the end of nineteenth century. Despite the several attempts by the political, medical and intellectual elite to establish speeches and laws against the presence, work and body of popular, these, grows even more by the work done, whether in times of drought or in thebelle époqueperiod of Fortaleza. By the analysis of the sources, such as reports of the provincial presidents, minutes of matches and books of memory, problematizes the classification of poor and informal workers, at the moment that the economic elite of Fortaleza wish to establish the modern commercial in the capital of Ceará.
Busca-se com este artigo analisar a maneira pela qual os trabalhadores de rua, tais como carregadores, vendedores e pedintes, articulavam seus dias na cidade de Fortaleza, no final do século XIX. Apesar das diversas tentativas da elite política, médica e intelectual em estabelecer discursos e leis contra a presença, o trabalho e o corpo dos populares, estes, cada vez mais, se faziam presentes por meio dos trabalhos realizados, seja nos tempos de seca, seja no período da belle époque fortalezense. Por meio da análise de fontes como relatórios de presidentes da província, atas de correspondências e livros de memórias, problematiza-se aqui a tipificação dos trabalhadores pobres e informais, no momento em que a elite econômica fortalezense desejava instaurar a modernidade comercial na capital cearense.
