As sagradas escrituras orientam, educam e salvam: a educação monástica de Guiberto de Nogent (c.1055-1125)

    The article analyses aspects of the medieval monastic education in the XI th century and the doubts raised by the teachers of that time about the use of texts from the pagan classical literature. As base for our analysis, we took the moralizing testimony of benedictine abbot Guibert of Nogent (c.1055c.1125), who in his younghood lived the drama of to be tempted by the Ovidian poetry, something that almost put him out of his way to the wisdom and the meeting of the divine spirituality.

    O artigo analisa aspectos da educação monástica medieval do século XI e as dúvidas levantadas pelos docentes da época quanto ao uso de textos da literatura clássica pagã. Como base para as nossas análises, tomamos o depoimento edificante do abade beneditino Guiberto de Nogent (c.1055c.1125) que, em sua juventude, viveu o drama de ser seduzido pela poesia ovidiana, fato que quase o desviou de seu caminho rumo à Sabedoria e do encontro da divina espiritualidade
