Phyletic affinities of five populations of the Globigerinoides trilobus group from the Caribbean and Aquitaine basin, France, are investigated. Order of samples on a phenetic tree based on a matrix of Mahalanobis' generalized distances (14 variates) corresponds well with independent evidence of their stratigraphic order and suggests that the content of phyletic information in the tree is high. A branch in the tree separating crudely contemporaneous populations from either side of the Atlantic may be evidence of the divergence of G. trilobus altiapertura (Caribbean) from G. trilobus primordius s. 1. (Aquitaine basin). Globigerinoides trilobus trilobus may be a direct descendant from the latter that arrived in the Caribbean in Zone N. 6.
