  • Resumen
    • A piston core was obtained from a depth of 2690 m in Northeast Providence Channel, Bahamas, which contained a 325 cm section of unconsolidated sediments composed of low magnesium calcite of middle Eocene age. This interval may represent a continuous record of about a quarter of the Globigerapsis kugleri zone. The planktonic foraminiferal fauna was composed almost wholly of robust tests suggesting selective removal of more delicate tests by differential solution. Factor vector analysis was used to analyze the planktonic foraminiferal fauna. Lack of much clustering in R modal analysis may result from either dissolution or lower organization of middle Eocene planktonic foraminiferal populations. Q modal analysis indicated a gradual change occurred in the planktonic foraminiferal fauna through time. The relative abundance of keeled species of Globorotalia increased upward in the section suggesting these faunal changes represented responses to increasing water temperature during the middle Eocene.
