  • There has been a growing trend of live streaming oneself moving, across differing modes of transportation through urban spaces, a practice we term spatial streaming. In this chapter we examine live streams and chat feeds of “spatial streamers” on the popular video livestreaming platform Twitch. Through the case study of spatial streams located in urban areas across North America, Europe and Asia, we posit that this practice can be seen as a form of mediated placemaking. Drawing upon de Certeau’s conceptualizations of physical vs social space and notions of digital wayfaring, we ultimately argue that these video streams reinforce the centrality of movement and mobility in our experiences of place and utilize these streams to argue for a notion of “platformed placemaking,” an extension of previous conceptualizations of digital placemaking.
