  La equidad de género es central en la labor de las instituciones de educación superior, IES. Así, este artículo describe el proceso en el cual las IES chilenas han desarrollado instancias de género para promover su institucionalización. Los hallazgos dan cuenta de la heterogeneidad de estas instancias y sus niveles de implementación; destacando el papel del movimiento feminista universitario como motor central en su gestación. Así mismo, se da cuenta de la emergencia de obstáculos para transversalizar esta perspectiva, aunque esto no ha impedido la realización de diversas acciones. Se concluye, la relevancia de estos avances y su proyección futura en relación con la misión social de las IES.

  Gender equity is central to the work of higher education institutions. Thus, this article describes the process in which Chilean higher education institutions have developed gender instances to promote its institutionalization. The findings show the heterogeneity of these instances and their levels of implementation, highlighting the role of the university feminist movement as a central driving force in their gestation. Likewise, the emergence of obstacles to mainstreaming this perspective is noted, although this has not prevented the implementation of various actions. It is concluded, the relevance of these advances and their future projection in relation to the social mission of the higher education institutions.
