Egipto
For the first time from Egypt, Calcareous nannofossils related to the Discoasterides are detected in the Eocene sediments of Betty well-1, Northwestern Desert. Eighteen species are photographed and described in detail. These minute fossils (Discoasters) are well preserved and easily recognized. They permit subdivision of the studied Eocene section into three biostratigraphic zones arranged as follows: Discoaster barbadiensis zone (Upper Lutetian), Discoaster sublodoensis zone (Lower Lutetian) and Discoaster lodoensis zone (Upper Ypresian). Correlation with the equivalent planktonic foraminiferal zones is discussed.
