Radiicypridina a new Cypridinid ostracode genus from the Upper Carboniferous

  • The muscle scars of «Cypridina» radiata Jones & Kirkby, 1874 are described for the first time. Their complicated pattern cannot be compared with those of other Cypridinacean ostracodes. Also the structure of the carapace appears unique within this superfamily. Because of these characters this species is put in a new genus Radiicypridina.

    Radiicypridina radiata is known from the Lower Westphalian (Hance Formation) of the United States, and from the Westphalian of Scotland, England, Wales North of France, Belgium and Tthe Netherlands. R. radiata occurs in sediments indicative of non-marine to brackish environments.
