    Este artículo analiza el proceso de estigmatización de los exiliados cubanos pos-Mariel en Estados Unidos debido a su concepción como el otro, tanto para los exiliados pre-Mariel como para el resto de habitantes de la potencia norteamericana. Lo propio se realiza a través del análisis de los estereotipos construidos y difundidos en la película de Brian De Palma, Scarface (1983). Las fuentes primarias utilizadas son diálogos extraídos del guion y fotogramas que son analizados con especial atención al significado creado por su contenido formal. Lo propio se produce a través de diversas conceptualizaciones teóricas del pensamiento binario. El cuerpo del trabajo se divide en cuatro capítulos enfocados en cinco estereotipos: el enemigo interno, el vago, el soltero depredador, el ángel de la casa y el demonio de la calle.

    This article analyzes the process of stigmatization suffered by the pre-Mariel Cuban exiles in the United States as a result of their representation as the other, both by the pre-Mariel exiles and the other inhabitants of the nation. The process is developed through the analysis of the stereotypes constructed and diffused by the Brian De Palma’s film, Scarface (1983). The primary sources used are dialogues and photograms extracted from the film. In the case of the photograms, the focus is on the meaning created by the formal content. The sources are analyzed through theoretical conceptualizations of binary thinking. The body of the article is divided in four chapters that are focused on five stereotypes: the internal enemy, the lazy, the predator single, the angel of the house, and the devil of the streets.
