    El presente artículo pretende explorar, insertándose en los debates en relación con el contractor state y la persistencia del sector privado en el negocio de la guerra, la función ejercida por los militares-empresarios de la Carrera de Indias como contratistas involucrados en la financiación y apresto del aparato militar en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. Estas actividades, las cuales se ponen en conexión con la etapa anterior, fueron esenciales para la supervivencia de la Carrera el resto del siglo.

    This article intends to explore, inserting itself in the debates in relation to the contractor state and the persistence of the private sector in the business of war, the function exercised by the military-entrepreneurs of the Carrera de Indias as contractors involved in the financing and preparation of the military structure in the second half of the 17th century.These activities, which are linked to the previous period, were essential for the survival of the Career of Indies for the rest of the century.
