    Manuel García Morente y José Ortega y Gasset intercambiaron once cartas, todas ellas escritas, excepto la primera, durante la Guerra Civil española. Ambos pensadores pudieron convivir estrechamente durante su exilio en París. Tras su separación física, las cartas siguientes las envía Morente desde la Argentina, donde desempeñó dos cátedras en la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. A ellas quiso Ortega dar respuesta con otra enviada a Tucumán, hasta ahora inédita. Ya en España, la última misiva de Morente da cuenta a su amigo Ortega de su proyecto de ordenarse sacerdote, culmen de su conversión religiosa iniciada en su exilio en París. A esta carta nunca respondió su destinatario.

    Manuel García Morente and José Ortega y Gasset exchanged eleven letters, which were written during the Spanish Civil War, with the exception of the first one. Both philosophers were able to meet regularly during their exile in Paris. Some time later, after going in different directions, the following letters were sent by Morente from Argentina, where he held two professorships at the National University of Tucumán. Ortega replied with another letter, sent to Tucumán; such letter has been unpublished until now. On his return to Spain, Morente posted his last letter to Ortega, letting him know about his plan of becoming a Catholic priest, the culmination of his religious conversion, which had begun to take shape during his exile in Paris.
