La platería, pese a ser una de las disciplinas que configuraron el sistema de artes y oficios de Santiago desde la propia fundación de la ciudad en los inicios del siglo IX, no ha sido estudiada de forma decidida por la historiografía gallega. Nuestra investigación se centra en las fuentes documentales que nos permiten comprender el desarrollo de este arte, especialmente desde un enfoque biográfico y atendiendo a la importancia de los artistas en la Compostela de su época. En este artículo exploramos el contexto del tránsito del siglo XIX al XX desde la prensa histórica a través de cinco plateros desconocidos hasta ahora, dando cuenta de noticias entre las que hemos encontrado las descripciones de suntuosas piezas perdidas que certifican la variedad y calidad de sus trabajos e importancia de sus destinatarios.

Silversmithing, despite being one of the disciplines that shaped the system of arts and crafts of Santiago since the foundation of the city at the beginning of the ninth century, it has not been studied decisively by Galician historiography. Our research focuses on documentary sources that allow us to understand the development of this art, especially from a biographical approach and attending to the importance of these artists in the Compostela of their time. In this article we explore the context of the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century from the historical press, through five silversmiths unknown until now, and news among which we have found the descriptions of sumptuous lost pieces that certify the variety and quality of their works and importance of their customers.
