Comparison of Valve Oranamentation in Various Species of Hemicytherura from Western Ireland, the Mediterranean and the Red Sea

  • The detailed study of specimens from the West of Ireland, formerly assigned to Hemiaytherura cellulosa (Norman), has shown that they must now be referred to Hemicytherura videns videns (Müller). Although the two species are similar in gross morphological characteristics a detailed study of the valve ornamentation of H. cellulosa (Norman), H. videns and H. videns aegyptica shows that they may be clearly and easily distinguished.
