  • Resumen
    • A detailed study relating to morphology, distributional pattern and micro-wall structure of Ammonia beccarrii (Linné) from the recent sediments of Mangalore, Bhatkal and Karwar (Devgard islands) of the West Coast of India is presented in this paper. Such an investigation enabled to point out certain similarities and variations in the frequency of megalo and microspheric forms in each one of the sinistral and dextral specimens as well as in the elongation ratio, sphericity and dimension of the test. Data pertaining to such similarities and variations for specimens drawn from the three different geographic localities have been graphically illustrated. The micro-structural study of the wall indicates two layered nature with radial and granular pattern in different parts of the test of one and the same specimen. The septa are always granular showing bilamellar nature at the umbilical region. The structural pattern of the wall and the septa contradicts the opinion of some of the earlier workers and calls for reassessment of its value in the taxonomic classification of calcareous foraminifera as a whole and the family Rotaliidae in particular.
