To characterize AD and its implication in the nutritional status of the elderly; Discuss the physiological aspects of AD and analyze the issues regarding the autonomy of individuals in the process of payment of payment of AD. Material and Methods: Literature review, carried out through searches in PubMed, SciELO, MEDLINE, LILACS and BVS Brasil databases. Results and Discussion: Noting that the majority of the elderly with AD had cases of malnutrition, thus evidencing adequate nutrition. In addition, several comorbidities are related to AD, such as dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension and diabetes, worsening their health. Conclusion: Although they are important as studies of AD and the importance of the elderly, especially not referring to daily difficulties and low weight, it is necessary that further studies carried out with a larger sample of diseases to confirm their severity can influence the nutritional status of patients and whether food can be an analyzing factor in AD. Keywords: Dementia; Seniors; Nutrition.
