Paper deals with problem of 3 biogeoprovinces recognised in the Paleocene of Europe, with special reference to Poland, on the base of benthonic foraminifers:
1. Boreal biogeoprovince.
2. Transitional - Meridional biogeoprovince (not Mediterranean).
3. Tethyan biogeoprovince.
The presence of planktonic foraminifers was analised within each of the above biogeoprovinces and conclusions concerning the nature of their distribution are drawn. It is concluded that the stricte dependance existed between the occurrence of the defined assemblage of planktonic foraminifers and the type of sedimentary basin. It seems that presence of the angulated and especially keeled planktonic species in Paleocene was connected with the Open-sea of oceanic type almost exclusively.
