Resumen de Toothplate Cavity in Bolivinita

George H. Scott

  • Adjacent to the toothplate in the Bolivinita quadrilatera species group is an opening resembling an auxiliary foramen. It leads to a deep, narrow, tapering cavity which is closed by the extension of the toothplate over the apertural rim. No physiological function of the cavity is apparent. A conjecture is that it is an architectural relict, a space occupied by the cytoplasmic template or 'mould' when the toothplate is constructed.
