    En este artículo se narra y analiza el ataque que realizaron el caudillo Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez y sus seguidores a la ciudad de Comitán y su valle a principios de 1837. El objetivo es demostrar cómo este acontecimiento tuvo lugar gracias a la pugna entre facciones que existía en Chiapas y a la indefinición de la frontera sur de México como consecuencia de los desacuerdos diplomáticos entre la República de Centro América y México, y cómo estos factores tuvieron consecuencias importantes en la vida cotidiana de los habitantes de la región.

    The article narrates and analyzes the attack on the city of Comitán and its valley by the caudillo Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez and his followers in early 1837. The objective is to demonstrate how this event took place thanks to the existing factional struggle in Chiapas and the lack of definition of Mexico's southern border, a consequence of the diplomatic disagreements between the Republic of Central America and Mexico. As well as these factors had important consequences in the daily life of the inhabitants of the region.
