Resumen de La crisis del trabajo eventual en un puerto menor: Pisagua (1918, 1923)

Enmarcado en el estudio del trabajo portuario en Chile a inicios del siglo XX, y particularmente en la crisis de su estructura ocupacional, este artículo propone revisitar el ciclo de conflictividad laboral acontecido en la región salitrera durante 1916-1923, enfocándolo en el puerto de Pisagua. Esto, a partir de la reproducción e interpretación de dos fuentes inéditas, correspondientes a un lockout y a una huelga ocurridos en 1918 y 1923, respectivamente. El análisis propone una lectura relacional del binomio puerto mayor-puerto menor con el objeto de sortear las limitaciones de la acepción formal en función de una mejor comprensión de su metabolismo y de las implicancias que este tuvo respecto de la crisis del trabajo eventual.

Framed in the study of dock work in Chile at the beginning of the 20th century, and particularly in the crisis of its occupational structure, this article proposes to revisit the cycle of labor conflict that occurred in the nitrate area during 1916-1923, focusing on the port of Pisagua. This, based on the reproduction and interpretation of two unpublished sources, corresponding to a lockout and a strike that occurred in 1918 and 1923, respectively. The analysis proposes a relational reading of the major port-minor port binomial in order to overcome the limitations of the formal meaning based on a better understanding of its metabolism and the implications that this had regarding the crisis of casual work.
