    En toda la Historia jurídica de la Roma antigua sólo hay tres referencias de finales del s. II d.C. que aborden el tema de individuos con caracteres genitales de ambos sexos (total o parcial, o estados de pseudo-hermafroditismo); aunque, cabe la duda de que existieran otros textos legales al respecto, y que no se hayan conservado. No obstante, la época augustea será clave para identificar jurídicamente la androginia con un término extraído del campo literario; lo que no es de extrañar dada la contundencia con la que las leyes caducarias habían intervenido en el ámbito familiar y social, coaccionando la libertad de los ciudadanos conforme a unos estándares políticos de pudor, y de unas forzadas exigencias reproductivas.

    In all the legal history of ancient Rome there are only three references from the end of the s. II AD that address the issue of individuals with genital characteristics of both sexes (total or partial, or states of pseudo-hermaphroditism); although, there is no doubt that other legal texts existed in this regard, and that they have not been preserved. However, The Augustan era will be key to legally identify androgyny with a term extracted from the literary field; which is not surprising given the forcefulness with which the expired laws had intervened in the family and social sphere, coercing the freedom of citizens in accordance with political standards of modesty, and forced reproductive demands.
