    Se denomina «escroto agudo» a un conjunto de afecciones que se caracterizan por el aumento de tamaño de la bolsa escrotal, acompañado de signos inflamatorios y de otros síntomas y signos que varían en dependencia de la causa que lo origina. El síndrome de escroto agudo es frecuente en la edad pediátrica y constituye una urgencia quirúrgica y urológica. La valoración del especialista, la cual implica la interpretación de las manifestaciones clínicas y de las imágenes por ecografía Doppler testicular —estudio de elección por su alta precisión para determinar la vascularización y viabilidad del testículo afectado—permite confirmar el diagnóstico e indicar el mejor tratamiento según la afección específica que origina el síndrome.El diagnóstico acertado y el tratamiento oportuno por parte de los cirujanos y urólogos es de suma importancia para la evolución y resolución del síndrome de escroto agudo, ya que posibilita conservar la viabilidad del testículo y evita trastornos tales como la atrofia y la infertilidad del paciente en la edad adulta.

    “Acute scrotum” refers to a group of conditions in which there is an increase in size of the scrotal sac, accompanied by inflammatory signs and other symptoms and signs that vary depending on the cause that originates it. Acute scrotum syndrome is common in children and constitutes a surgical and urological emergency.The evaluation of the specialists, which involves the interpretation of the clinical manifestations and the images by testicular Doppler ultrasound —the study of choice due to its high precision in determining the vascularization and viability of the affected testis—makes it possible to confirm the diagnosis and indicate the best treatment according to the specific condition that causes the syndrome.The correct diagnosis and timely treatment by surgeons and urologists is extremely important for the evolution and resolution of acute scrotal syndrome, since it makes it possible to preserve the viability of the testicle and prevents disorders such as atrophy and infertility of the patient in Adulthood.
